Date Set for Start of ULURP

We now have word on when the official approval (or, we hope, disapproval!) process will start for NYU’s 2031 Plan.  NYU has stated that they expect their application to be certified to enter the ULURP (Uniform Land Use Review Procedure) process around the beginning of the New Year.

From certification, ULURP has four major phases:  Community Board, Borough President, City Planning and finally City Council.  CAAN has been making sure that our Councilmember is aware of our concerns, and of course the Community Board and Borough President have been working on the issue for several years through various hearings and the BP’s Task Force.

CAAN remains adament on three major points:

  • No rezoning on either the Superblocks or the area east of Washington Square Park.
  • No acquisition (or easements on) of the city-owned open space strips on the Superblocks.
  • No lifting of the deed restrictions on the prior Urban Renewal Plan.

We will be adding information here and on the CAAN 2031 Facebook page as hearings and informational meetings are scheduled, so please bookmark this site and “like” CAAN 2031 if you’re on Facebook to keep up with the latest.  Also, please encourage your neighbors to do so as the more people that come out to the hearings and meetings, the more impact we make on those that will be voting on our future!
